Information About FD&C Certified Colors

Certifications
Certified color additives, known as FD&C color additives, are artificially manufactured, and widely utilized due to their ability to provide strong, consistent colors, cost-effectiveness, and ease of blending for a diverse range of hues.

Exemptions
Color additives exempt from certification typically stem from natural origins like vegetables, minerals, or animals. These exempt additives include annatto extract (yellow hue), dehydrated beets (ranging from bluish-red to brown), caramel (yellow to tan), beta-carotene (yellow to orange), and grape skin extract (red or purple).
